Breast Cancer Awareness Month
-tips to help women take charge of their health-
Breast Cancer is the leading cause of cancer in women. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), more than 250,000 new cases of female breast cancer are reported each year.
October is breast cancer awareness month, and we want to share tips and resources on how women can take charge of their health. Breast cancer is sometimes found after symptoms appear, but many women may not have symptoms. This is why regular breast cancer screenings are so important. Breast Cancer that is detected early, sometimes known as the localized stage; has a five-year relative survival rate of nearly 100 percent!
How can you help yourself?
Maintaining a healthy weight and regular exercise are also important. Minimizing alcohol use is helpful as well. The United States Preventive Services Task Force Recommends biennial screening mammogram for women aged 50 to 74 years. A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast that doctors use to look for early signs of breast cancer. Women who are at higher risk may need to start mammography earlier and/or do them every year. For additional information including recommendations about other screening tests, consult with your provider.
